Producer Edition This fully functional edition unlocks all core features, with full capabilities, mic recording etc. FL Studio product Includes… Fruity Edition Enough features to create basic loops and tracks, with some instruments and effects, but lacks many great features such as Sytrus and Edison. For quick reverb in FL Studio, I’ll usually throw Fruity Reeverb 2 onto a mixer track, alter the “wet” parameter, and unless you’re going for a very specific reverb style, that is usually all you need to create a great reverb effect. It also comes with a huge amount of FX, and they sound extremely good right out the box. Ableton has a more streamlined workflow and is better for experienced producers, but this comes at the cost of being harder to learn and more confusing for beginners. The synths, such as my personal favourite: Sytrus, are highly effective for producing a huge array of sounds for any genre, and come with huge libraries of patches and presets for immediate inspiration. If cost is a major concern, FL Studio is probably your best bet - the 200 Producer edition and the 300 signature edition are comparable to Abletons 550 Live Standard edition. Hope you figure it all out.FL Studios collection of features is unbelievably impressive. It's all preference in the end, but to me, Live has so much more to offer after you get over the somewhat larger learning curve (as opposed to FL). When using FL I always feel like I'm manipulating and working against FL, whereas with Live, I'm working with it. Everything is so much more linear and workable. In my opinion, as I go back and see what FL has after learning a lot with Ableton, it's still Ableton all the way.

Theres plenty of projects on GitHub and Ableton provides an SDK for dealing with ALS. Ableton's handling of FL's mixer is a lot nicer. Ableton's 'instrument rack' is a lot more expressive than FL's 'layer'.

You don't have to keep clicking that dumb dropdown to set different quantization rates, you can just scroll in and Ableton will update it. The library is snappier (cmd-f lists ALL results, not just one, and it's instantaneous, and it can also search for effects). It does automation soooo much better than FL, I can't even explain.
That was very nice.īut Ableton is better, generally speaking. If you pushed, I'd admit I also miss how you could set other properties of note (other than velocity) in the bar under the step sequencer. So FL Studio would probably be my pick, with me being a newbie overall. I do miss some things from FL: pitch bend and pattern blocks. Over the years, I had read some threads and asked people, and come to the conclusion that, while FL Studio might not have as many features as Ableton or Cubase, it has a strong community and very diligent developers and is very beginner friendly, from what I can tell. I used FL for 9 years, then switched to Ableton a few months ago.
